Abstract:
Abstract Image similarity is an important quantitative measure to find the resemblance between the images. It is primarily used in image retrieval and image segmentation techniques. Region overlapping is one of supervised similarity measure which performs quantitative comparison between the images and produce accurate result only when the regions of the images are positioned in the same coordinate space. It is not always possible to expect the regions in the same coordinate space, particularly in image retrieval system; the image may look similar but may be placed in different coordinate space. Therefore, it is necessary to devise a method to align the images in the same coordinate space before computing the similarity measures. This paper presents a simple and efficient method to align the images in the same coordinate space for computing region overlapping measures. Region overlapping measures such as Jaccard(J), Dice(D), True Positive(TP), True Negative(TN), False Positive(FP), False Negative(FN), Sensitivity(S) and Specificity(SP) are calculated between the images. The experimental result for the selected sample images show that the proposed method have accurately aligned and computed the similarity measures.
